Itch.io meets Black Lives Matter: Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality
If you're not up to date with what is going up in America right now, a 46-year-old black man named George Floyd was murdered by the Minneapolis police.
"Floyd had recently lost his job as a result of the Minnesota stay-at-home order and was accused of using a counterfeit $20 bill at a grocery store. In response, the police handcuffed him, pinned him to the ground, and officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. During that time, Floyd pleaded for them to stop; he said he couldn't breathe, that he was in pain, he called out for his mother."
The officer adjusted his knee on several occasions (allegedly, to cause Floyd extra pain) while a colleague checks his pulse. Still, even after he became unresponsive, they didn't let Floyd go until the ambulance arrived and they were told to get off by the paramedics.
The whole event was caught on camera and spread like wildfire, once again raising awareness to police brutality caused by racism, and leading to multiple peaceful protests in Minneapolis and other parts of America. To this protests, however, the police responded with yet more violence (pushing old people onto the ground, running people over with horses and vehicles, using tasers, pepper spray, and rubber bullets against unarmed civilians - including members of the press - even when they had their arms up), leading to a wave of revolt not only in America but also in other parts of the globe, with multiple other people having peaceful protests in their home countries in solidarity.
