RPGenesis 2020

The challenge to create a tabletop RPG of 5.000 words in only a week is back!

Bear in mind that, although the RPGenesis rules mention a minimum of 5.000 words, the event organizers have confirmed that this is merely a suggestion for people to challenge themselves, but that it's not required to actually hit 5.000 words to "succeed" in completing the RPGenesis challenge. If you want to design a minimalistic system (or even a one-pager), that's will never reach the 5.000 words due to its nature, that's okay. The main goal of RPGenesis is that, after the 7 days are up, you will have at least the genesis of a game, a rough first draft, that you can then finish, polish, and even playtest after the event is over.

If you love TTRPGs and are interested in game design, come join us in this challenge of designing, playtesting, and publishing our own tabletop games. This year's challenge will take place between August 9th and 15th. You can go here for the Portuguese version or here for the English version.

If you understand Portuguese, here's a Youtube playlist and examples of how to create a TTRPG that might be helpful for you to have an idea of what to expect from RPGenesis and get some preparation done ahead of time.

If you have no previews experience with this sort of thing, worry not. You can always interact with the community (before, during, and after the event) on the itch.io forum and on the Discord server.

If you don't think you'll be able to take part of RPGenesis either because you're not on holiday at the time of the event, or because you consider that your project is far too ambitious to possibly be finished in 7 days, you'll be pleased to know that you can also participate in NaGa DeMon, which takes place during the entire month of November, giving you four weeks instead of one to design, playtest and polish your project.

Did you participate in a previous edition of RPGenesis? If yes, what were some of the challenges you came across, and were you able to overcome them?
If you never participated, do you plan to participate this year? If not, what's holding you back?
