One-page adventure: Na Escuridão

October 03, 2019
For those of you who are not from Portugal, on September 28th and 29th we had out annual roleplayers meeting, at Marvila's library - Rolisboa 2019. For two whole days, there were people playing all sorts of games from a variety of systems. There was also a Critters Meeting for those who watch Critical Role, as well as some lectures and workshops.

From one of those workshops ("Creating a scenario in 3 acts", presented by Francisco Duarte), in collaboration with Cristina Lopes, David Neves, and Susana Mourão, a new one-page adventure came into being.

Na Escuridão (In the Darkness) is a system-neutral one-page adventure for role-playing games (RPGs), based on the classic “three-act scenario” model and designed to allow some versatility, depending on how much the Game Master (GM) wants to simplify it. If they wish to use only the most basic content available here, this adventure may last only for either a short one-shot or a couple-sessions mini-adventure, at most. If they wish to make use of the extra tips and options (and, perhaps, even complement with extra content of their own), this can easily turn into a small campaign.

The name of the adventure is purposely ambiguous, so as to leave the adventure theme open, as there are certain elements of the adventure that should only be known to the Game Master in order to surprise the players. Player Characters (PCs) begin the subway session on their way to another absolutely banal day until a series of surreal events trigger a fantastic adventure.

The adventure also has 40 dialogue cards to aid any players whose character dies during gameplay and becomes a ghost. That way, if they don't know what to say and how to stay relevant to the adventure now that they're dead, they can always draw inspiration from the cards.

Na Escuridão is only available in Portuguese (for the time being, at least).
The English translation - In the Darkness - is now live as well!
