The Sims 4 Star Wars: What we know so far

September 07, 2020

As some simmers have been chosen to have early access to the Star Wars pack, we have learned a bit more about it, so here's some extra info if you're still undecided about whether or not you should get this pack:

Create-A-Sim

We got some new hairstyles and clothes (some of which need to be unlocked though). One of the hairstyles is pretty original, while the other ones are too identical to hairstyles we already had in game. As for the clothes, people seem to be having mixed feelings about them; some people hate them, other people love them and some are saying stuff along the lines of "they're nice to wear during the Star Wars pack gameplay, but it's not an outfit I will keep once my sim goes back to their regular world", so I guess it really just comes down to your personal taste. However, if you are a Star Wars fan, bear in mind that the really nice lore-related outfits had already been patched into the game for free, which means you won't need to buy this pack to have access to them.

When it comes to the new aliens, we already had aliens as a playable race in TS4 so, unsurprisingly, these are not new Occults. Instead, the alien looks are nothing but face masks. I guess you can always create a regular alien and then plop a Star Wars mask on its face.

You can watch Deligracy (from the image below) go through the new CAS options. However, as much as she tries to stay optimistic, I personally think that Plumbella touches on some points that she doesn't (like the fact the alpha textures on one of the masks is so bad that you could be getting a better one for free from an amateur modder...).

There are no new traits (again, unsurprisingly) but there is a new aspiration (with two different paths) that relates to the actual gameplay: will you remain neutral or pick a side?

Build/Buy Mode

I have to admit, I am legit impressed with the amount of new objects this pack adds to the game - there's even some cute toys (Plumbella shows them all in their video). However, once again, while these look like really cool items for sci-fi builds or even for industrial builds, not only they may not necessarily appease to every simmer, but you can also get similar content for free from the billions of TS4 custom content out there.

World and Gameplay

The world and gameplay seem to be everyone's main concern at this point. Everyone agrees that this is just a new repetition of Strangerville which, for those of you not familiar with that, it basically means that you play the Star Wars storyline and then you're done with it. The only difference here is that there are three possible patch (since you can join the Resistance, First Order, or Scoundrels), which simply means it'll take a bit longer to get repetitive but you're still only getting a couple hours of quests out of it if you know your way around The Sims 4 games.

I know absolutely nothing about Star Wars but I've seen people complain that there are huge lore holes, as well as some lore mistakes as well, that I hope EA at least has the decency to address and fix in a later patch. They wanted to do a Star Wars pack against everyone's opinion, so they need to at least get it right and do some justice to the franchise instead of butchering it.

While the world looks absolutely stunning from afar, it turns out that up close all the buildings are just pretty looking decorative shells and you can actually only go inside one of the buildings in the whole town. Same thing for the Millenim Falcon, you better be okay with just looking at it from the outside 'cause you're not getting a peek inside that space ship.

Some of the empty buildings actually work as shops so you can walk up to the building and click on it to open a shop menu. It saddens me that EA didn't take the time to make the inside of these shops (even if just a small square in the entrance of the building) and have the actual alien NPC inside that so that our sims could at least talk to them.

Light-sabers (which require an additional part to work, so be careful with that) are cool I guess, if you enjoy using them for goofy non-lethal fake fights that trip away all the drama and action of the movies.

I thought the little droids from the trailer looked adorable (I have never seen Star Wars and yet I absolutely adore R2-D2) but the feedback we've been getting about them is that they're not of much use when it comes to actual gameplay, which is yet another disappointment.

In Conclusion

I've seen simmers who are Star Wars fans say that they hate this pack so much that they will not buy it even though they are completionists (which pretty much means they own every single other expansion pack, game pack, and stuff pack in existence) but I've also heard people say that, while they couldn't care less about the pack, all they really do in TS4 is build houses so they might end up getting the pack just for the new decorative items.

Bottom line is, while a few people are trying to "boycott" EA's sales by spreading a "do not buy this patch no matter what" copy-pasta around YouTube, at the end of the day it is up to you to do your homework, watch some reviews, read some blog articles, and decide whether or not this pack is right for you.
