Graveyard Keeper

August 17, 2018
Game intro: So, it turns out you are now the graveyard keeper (I won't spoil how or why) and it is your job to autopsy (and maybe cremate) and bury some corpses, as well as to keep the cemetery with a decent look. If you do your job right, the bishop might just thank you by reopening the church.

Regardless of people saying this game is somewhat similar to Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper has a much darker vibe to it, and a hint of dark humor here and there. I mean, you start the game by basically learning that you can get some meat out of the corpses and eat it if you choose to, that should give you a fair idea of the game's mood.

You can improve the quality of the corpses by interacting with them in the morgue (removing different organs during the autopsy will have different results). As you progress, you can also interact with the corpses in other ways, such as cremation. You're also responsible for keeping the graveyard presentable, by getting rid of the messy holes on the ground and decorating the graves with fences and gravestones. The spaces that are too small to hold a grave can be decorated with flowerbeds instead.

Getting this done is your main job, since having a proper cemetery (with a score of at least 5) will make the Bishop unlock the church for you, which will give more trade power to the local merchants and allow you to preach sermons once a week, allowing your flock to donate a few pennies as well.

When you're not tending to your gravekeeper duty, you're mostly wandering around the world interacting with rocks, trees and forages, in order to improve your skills and unlock new skill trees. You can also unlock a farming area near your house if you're into that sort of thing.

From what I can tell, you can choose to either buy some of the crafting materials from the townsfolk or simply gather them yourself and be completely self-sustainable. Some people may also give you some simple quests that will help you progress in the game and maybe make some friends.

Since this game was only released a couple days ago and I didn't really play the alpha version, I'm pretty much still learning things about the game and the way it works, but I am really enjoying it so far. It looks promising, even with the minor bugs some people are having.

If you have any suggestions for the developers on how they can further improve the game, consider leaving your feedback here. Let's make this game even better together!
