About the Blog

August 17, 2018
If you're curious to know why I decided to start this blog, and why I named it "Minakie's Randomness", you came to the right place!

If you already read the About Me page of the blog, you might already know that even though I'm not a live streamer I have spent over a decade on Twitch.

What you may not know is that the reason why I am not a live streamer is due to my family not allowing me to do so. If I want to ever live stream on Twitch, YouTube or any other platform, I must first move out into a place of my own.

Another thing you may not know is that not being able to live stream only fueled my passion even more. I love to do research on the subjects I am passionate about and, maybe due to my ADHD, I can choose a topic and go into a frenzy of sorts, researching for hours without end, compiling as many links about it as possible to read later and save the most relevant ones. And then I avidly read it all, as if it was some sort of best-seller book.

During the two years after college when I was unemployed, I also spent a lot of time on the website - sometimes over 12 hours a day - and, at some point, was a moderator in over 10 different channels.
That gave me an extra reason to know about other platforms and services that could be used together with Twitch, how the chatbots worked and what type of commands you could have, etc. I was always eager to share my knowledge with the broadcasters I was moderating for and, whenever they had a doubt about something, I was the first to dig into the research and try to come up with a solution.

That was how the idea for this blog came to be. I decided I wanted a place where I could share some of that knowledge with the world, as there are always new and exciting platforms coming to live that can help make Twitch even better.

But, as I was deciding exactly what I wanted to write about, I figured I could also write a few game reviews. And then I realized that there were other subjects I would probably like to talk about as well, such as things about myself and my life, something that is mentioned on the news, or something that my friends would suggest.

That's where the title "Minakie's Randomness" came from. I don't know if it's due to my ADHD, but that's how I feel most times: random; like my being is trying to do several different and totally unrelated things at the same time.

I could've easily made more than one blog and separated them into their different subjects, but I am fairly new to blogging and I am not sure if I'll have that many articles I will write about. One of the things I struggle with in life is chronic depression, which completely drains me of energy from time to time, and I seem to lose the capacity to do even the things that I love doing the most. So, I figured it would be easier for me to have only one blog, as well as for my readers since they'd be able to just find it all in one place.

Yu, the flobber mascot

Yu (the blog mascot) is a flobber, an original species I created based on a little imaginary friend I had as a child. While most children imagine having other children as their imaginary friends, mine were almost exclusively either animals or animal-inspired creatures.

In a literal translation, Yu means "precious stone".

During my school years, I used to draw doodles of Yu on the margins of my notebooks, either when I was bored, or when I was trying to kill time while waiting for the rest of my classmates to finish their tests.

Looking back, she reminds me a bit of some of the Digimon that I, later on, came to know on a television anime.

Yu is a little cheerful and goofy creature that likes to play games. She is very skittish, which makes her easily startled by squeaky toys.

Nowadays, Yu is also one of the Chat Bots of my Twitch Channel, where she is also the mascot. She rewards those who behave with Stars (the channel's currency) and punishes those who practice mischief with timeouts and bans.

Yu has a special place in my heart since she helps me stay in touch with my inner child.
